SUWANEE -- A 7-year-old boy found floating unconscious in a Suwanee pool Monday evening later died at Emory Johns Creek Hospital.
The child was found "unconscious and unresponsive" in the complex swimming pool at the Amli at McGinnis Ferry apartments, where a bystander had discovered him and began to perform CPR, Gwinnett County fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene just before 7 p.m.
How long the child, whose name was not released, was in the pool is unclear, Rutledge said.
The child was rushed to nearby Emory Johns Creek Hospital, where he later passed away, Suwanee police spokesman Capt. Cass Mooney said.
"I don't know how it happened, but he wound up going under," Mooney said. "Apparently a Good Samaritan noticed him and pulled him out of the pool."
A language barrier with the boy's Korean friends and family slowed Suwanee police's attempts at uncovering details Monday, Mooney said, and the exact happenings leading to his death are still fuzzy.
"He was with a group of people at the pool," Mooney said. "All indications so far is that it was an accidental drowning."
