BOE votes to keep millage rate

SUWANEE -- The Gwinnett County Board of Education unanimously voted Monday to maintain its millage rate for the fifth consecutive year.

The school board set a property tax rate of 20.55 mills, which includes 19.25 mills for maintenance and operations and 1.3 mills for debt service. That means the school system will collect $1,567 in property tax on a $200,000 home.

Although the tax rate will remain the same, the school system will collect less money because of the decline in the property tax digest.

The millage rate will support the school system's $1.76 billion budget, which the school board adopted in May. The budget is the district's spending plan for the fiscal year that begins July 1.
