A pair of Daily Post All-County high school girls basketball players were selected to national teams by USA Basketball on Friday.
First-team forward Diamond DeShields of Norcross was one of 16 finalists for a spot on the 2010 USA Women's U18 National Team, while first-team guard Andraya Carter of Buford was one of four players selected to represent the United States at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games 3-on-3 Tournament.
DeShields, who averaged 17.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals in helping the Blue Devils to the Class AAAAA state championship in March, is hoping to make the final cut of 12 players to compete for the U.S. in the 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship for Women from June 23-27 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The final team will be announced Monday.
Meanwhile, Carter, who averaged 17.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 5.2 steals in leading Buford to its second straight Class AA state title, joins three other players to participate in the Youth Olympic Games 3-on-3 Tournament to be held Aug. 15-23 in Singapore.
A third Daily Post first-team selection, Kaela Davis of Norcross, also participated in the three-day trails for both teams, as well as the USA Women's U17 National Team.
