GWINNETT GAB: Berry College graduate receives award

LAWRENCEVILLE — Gwinnett County native and Decatur resident Michael D. Williams was one of five Berry College graduates to be honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award in 2010.

The winner of Berry’s Outstanding Young Alumni Award, Williams has founded three successful businesses — Mosaic Consulting Group, Williams and Jansen Investments, and Goodwin Investment Advisory — since earning his college degree in 2003. As a student at Berry, the 2000 graduate of South Gwinnett High School achieved the rank of top salesperson and sales supervisor at Universal Tax Systems in Rome.

Williams is a member of local and national response teams for the American Red Cross and a co-founder of 24/7 Ministries, a nonprofit group established to enable individuals to make a global impact. He and his partners are currently supporting mission work in South Africa, feeding the hungry in Atlanta, and fostering dialogue and partnerships between Jewish and Arabic cultures in the Middle East.

He has returned to Berry many times since graduation to speak to business and family studies classes. He is actively involved with the Berry Entrepreneurship Program and is helping to establish the Berry Entrepreneurship Mentor Program.

Williams married classmate Amy Moskovitz in 2003 while finishing his degree at Berry. He recently graduated from Georgia State University with an MBA in international business and sales leadership.

Hamilton Mill Orthodontics opens LEED certified office

DACULA — Dr. Alec Elchahal’s practice, Hamilton Mill Orthodontics, has been awarded the Gold Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

LEED certification offers third-party verification that the building was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving energy savings and water efficiency.

Located in Dacula, Hamilton Mill Orthodontics’ new office opened June 1.

“Receiving the LEED certification was very important to use as we thought about how to design our new office,” said Elchahal, the owner of Hamilton Mill Orthodontics, Johns Creek Orthodontics and Vickery Orthodontics.

To adhere to LEED standards, Elchahal and his team selected practice management and digital imaging systems that are conservative with energy and resources.
