DULUTH -- The city of Duluth will crown a Duluth Idol in a singing competition Thursday inspired by the popular Fox reality TV series.
A dozen vocalists will compete for the title, each with four minutes to impress a panel of judges and the audience. The event is part of the city's Brown Bag Lunch series of free lunchtime concerts and shows held on the Duluth Town Green.
The winner of Duluth Idol will have the opportunity to perform as the opening act for the city's SummerStage Concert on June 26. The competition is sponsored by the Gwinnett Braves, with first, second and third-place winners receiving free tickets to a game that same evening. G-Braves mascot Chipper will make a guest appearance during the event.
Duluth Idol will begin at noon Thursday and those who attend are invited to bring along a picnic lunch. For more information, call the city at 770-476-3434.
