LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Georgia State Certification program has awarded the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department re-certification, making it one of only about 15 percent of Georgia agencies statewide to do so.
In order to achieve re-certification, the sheriff's department had to be in compliance with 118 standards of agency operations -- including use of force, training, vehicle operations, evidence, search and seizure, arrests, internal affairs and other operational and administrative functions.
The voluntary program "signifies an agency's commitment to implementing and complying with up-to-date and conceptually sound operational standards."
