Grayson kicks off calendar of local summer activities

The city of Grayson is celebrating summer with a series of events and activities throughout this season of warm weather.

The summer schedule of events will kick off Saturday with a Salute to Summer open house and ice cream social at the city's Arts and History Center. Visitors are invited to enjoy signature summer treats and peruse the collection of historical memorabilia on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This event will be followed by the opening performance in the city's summer concert series. The Backbeats, a bluesy rock band, will put on the first show of the season from 7 to 9 p.m. June 19 in Grayson City Park. The bluegrass band The Front Porch Pickers will perform from 6 to 9 p.m. June 26, again July 31 and to close out the concert series Aug. 28.

A local church, Anchor Church, will sponsor a movie night in the park at dusk July 9. "Toy Story" will be show on a large screen.

Those who attend any of the events on Grayson's summer schedule are asked to bring along canned foods to benefit the Southeast Gwinnett Co-op, which assists families in need by providing food.
