LAWRENCEVILLE — Police have identified the Duluth man killed in a shooting at a Lawrenceville apartment complex Friday, a crime they now believe may have been a drug deal gone bad.
Witnesses told police Friday that two men were conversing with the occupants of a dark-colored vehicle in the parking lot of the Carrington Chase Apartments complex on Club Drive when gunshots erupted. Both men were shot, with one pronounced dead upon arrival at Gwinnett Medical Center. The deceased has now been identified as 39-year-old Felipe Reynoso Brito. The second victim, “stable and expected to recover” from a gunshot wound to his groin, has been identified as Miguel Angel Batista, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Brian Kelly said Saturday. Batista’s age still has not been determined. Original reports Friday night placed both victims in their early 20s. Detectives were unable to determine a motive Friday night, but now, thanks to evidence recovered at and near the crime scene, believe the incident “may have been, in part, motivated by the illegal sales of drugs,” Kelly said. While the victims have been identified, detectives are still looking for leads to track down the three or four suspects that may have been involved. They were described Friday night only as “dark-skinned, possibly black, males.” Anyone with information is asked to call 770-513-5300.More like this story
