LAWRENCEVILLE -- A 17-year-old accused of throwing bleach in the face of another teen is being held at the request of immigration authorities.
Juan Carlos Flores made his first appearance at the Gwinnett County jail Saturday on a charge of aggravated battery. The judge set bond but immigration officials requested Flores be held for now.
He is one of four tee
ns facing charges in the incident. Authorities said the teens used a water gun to spray 14-year-old Miguel Mesa with a bleach mixture and tossed bleach-filled balloons at the boy as he walked home from Lilburn Middle School last week.
The three other teens are charged as juveniles. All four have said they wanted to ruin Mesa's clothing, not injure him. Mesa suffered serious injuries to the eyes.
