Gordon Earl Elliott of Duluth, GA, formerly of Covington, LA passed away on May 27, 2010 at the age of 92 years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Dottie Elliott and two daughters, Judith Elliott Meyer and husband William of Auburn, GA and Lake Luzerne, NY and Patricia Elliott Lemoine and husband Robert of Duluth, GA along with five grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Birmingham. AL on May 15, 1918, Gordon was the eldest of five children born to Gordon Crane Elliott and Margaret Barker Elliott. Predeceased by sister Margaret Elliott Parks and brothers Edward Elliott and Billy Jack Elliott, he has one surviving sister, June Elliott Roberts and husband Ray of Southside, AL. Gordon served in the U.S Navy from 1941 to 1945 as Chief Petty Officer during WWII. He served on the USS Rowe and the USS Swanson as Chief Radioman and was honorably discharged in 1945. Following his military service, Gordon began his working career with AT&T in Birmingham, AL and in 1951 transferred to the New Orleans, LA office as an engineer for the company. He retired from AT&T after 32 years of service. Gordon has been a life long member of the AT&T Pioneer Club and has been a HAM radio operator for most of his life. Gordon has attended and served in the Methodist Church all of his life and is a charter member of Sugarloaf United Methodist Church in Duluth, GA Gordon “Grandpa” Elliott is truly loved by his large family and we will honor and celebrate his long life at a Memorial Service to be held at the Bill Head Funeral Home Chapel in Duluth, GA on Saturday, June 5 at 11:00 AM following a private, family graveside interment. Rev. Stuart Greene, Rev. Larry Parker, and Rev. Kerry Lauria will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sugarloaf United Methodist Church in memory of Gordon Elliott would be appreciated.
