NORCROSS -- A gas leak this morning caused officials to close all lanes of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard near Norcross for about an hour, an official said.
The leak, caused by a construction crew digging in the 5100 block of the busy thoroughfare, was reported at 8:55 a.m. Firefighters closed all lanes between Old Peachtree Road and Medlock Bridge Road until 10:25 a.m., when southbound lanes were reopened, said Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge. Northbound lanes opened 10 minutes later.
A Hazmat team monitored gas readings at a nearby business but did not have to evacuate the building. One woman working at the business was evaluated and released at the scene after exposure to gas vapors. No other injuries were reported, Rutledge said..
An emergency crew from Atlanta Gas Light capped the leak at 10:08 a.m.
"We were fortunate that the gas company was able to quickly stop the leak and that no other injuries or evacuations were reported," Rutledge said.
