Duluth mayor looking for resident advisers for council

DULUTH -- Mayor Nancy Harris is looking for a few good advisers.

Duluth is seeking applications for the city's third Mayor's Advisory Council, known as Big Mac, after the council recently completed its second term.

The past members, now known as alumni, will continue to be a part of city projects, a press release said, but a new group will begin meeting in September.

"The purpose of Big Mac is to educate interested citizens on items and challenges that affect the city of Duluth," the release said. "This advisory group will receive current information about critical facts and issues that are pertinent to our organization. By having a consistent group of citizens attending all meetings, I will be able to receive quality feedback from a group that understands some of the operational procedures and ordinances that exist for Duluth. I want to communicate, clarify and create new solutions with your help."

Sessions are scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Thursdays -- Sept. 30, Nov. 18, Feb. 10 and April 21.

In addition to listening to city staff and neighbors, the members will have an opportunity to share ideas about how to improve quality of life in Duluth.

For an application, visit www.duluthga.net/BigMAC or call the mayor's office at 770-497-5321 and ask to speak to Susan Weber. The application deadline is Sept. 15, and participation is limited to 40 residents.

"This is a wonderful way for you to be a part of the decision making process as well as work to make Duluth the best place it can be for quality living," the release said.

Mayor Harris will also get some advice this week in one of her regular Web chats.

From 7 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, the mayor will be online, looking for feedback on the Red Clay Theater, which the city recently had to demolish a portion of because of its instability after demolition to widen a road.

To log on, visit www.stickam.com/cityofduluthga, and then click on the red view icon below the City logo on the right hand side of the page.

Residents can get a preview the new proposed designs for the renovation of Red Clay Theatre at a public input meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 17 at the theatre, 3116 Main St.
