LAWRENCEVILLE — A wide range of arrest warrants has been issued for a Lawrenceville man after police say he entered the apartment of an estranged ex-girlfriend last week, brandishing a handgun and scuffling with the two people inside.
Police said shots were fired after Clifford Lee Dean Jr. crawled through the balcony window at his former lover’s Lake Sweetwater apartment Thursday afternoon, pointing his 9 mm pistol at the woman and another male victim.
According to the police report, Dean forced the other man down the stairs and out of the apartment building at gunpoint before he tried to wrestle the weapon away from Dean.
During the struggle, two shots were fired into the apartment building, one through an empty apartment. The male was able to escape from Dean and ride off in the vehicle of the apartment maintenance man, who happened to be driving by, police said.
With the pistol malfunctioning after the scuffle, Dean then became physical with his ex-girlfriend, “(throwing) her into the bushes while yelling at her.”
With the woman by then scraped up and indisposed, police said Dean then re-entered her apartment, grabbing her laptop and cell phone before exiting out the window.
Dean fled the scene before police could arrive, but warrants were later issued for two counts of aggravated assault, battery and theft by taking, among others.
As of Monday afternoon, Dean had not been arrested, Gwinnett County Jail records showed.
