Every Gwinnett player had at least one hit and the G-Braves beat North Division leader Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 5-2 on Thursday to clinch a series win at PNC Field.
Wes Timmons was 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs to lead the offensive effort. Freddie Freeman was 3-for-5 with a run scored and Matt Young was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Starter Cristhian Martinez (3-1) struck out six and allowed only one run on four hits in 62⁄3 innings.
In the bottom of the ninth with one out, Gwinnett closer Craig Kimbrel allowed two Yankees to get to first and second base. He then struck out Greg Golson and Kevin Russo to secure the G-Braves’ victory.
Gwinnett returns to Coolray Field to take on Louisville in the first game of a four-game series today at 7:05 p.m. G-Braves LHP Jose Ortegano (2-7, 6.12 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Sam LeCure (6-2, 2.55 ERA) of the Bats.
