LAWRENCEVILLE -- The victim in a Wednesday afternoon shooting at a Lawrenceville gas station has died at Gwinnett Medical Center, authorities said this morning.
Police said Deandre Perkins, 20, of Loganville, was shot once in the chest when gunfire broke out at a Chevron on the corner of Herrington and Old Norcross roads.
Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said homicide investigators are following "very strong leads" in the case but did not elaborate.
Perkins was sitting in a parked car at the business with the vehicle's driver when two black males approached the passenger side. When one man shot Perkins, the driver sped off to the leasing office of nearby Herrington Woods Apartments, where he called 911, police said.
Police believe the suspects drove away. Witness descriptions of the pair varied.
A motive is under investigation, Ritter said.
Police urge anyone with information to call the Gwinnett County Police Department at 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
