LAWRENCEVILLE -- Conflicting stories surround a Wednesday afternoon shooting at a Lawrenceville gas station that left one man in serious condition.
Gwinnett County police responded to the call of a shooting just after 4:30 p.m., finding the victim and a driver parked at the Herrington Woods apartment complex.
The driver reported that they were at the nearby Chevron gas station at the corner of Old Norcross and Herrington Roads, when two unidentified suspects approached them, police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said.
"One of them brandished a weapon and shot the passenger in the car," Ritter said. "After the passenger was shot, (the victims) quickly left the area and went to Herrington Woods apartments to call the police."
The passenger, not identified, was shot in the chest and transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in serious condition as of Wednesday evening, Ritter said.
Both men were identified as black males in their 20s.
Identifying the suspects has been tricky thus far, Ritter said, because the driver of the vehicle and other witnesses provided conflicting descriptions of the two men and their vehicle.
A motive was not clear Wednesday.
"There's no indication that it was a robbery," Ritter said. "Other than that, we have no idea."
