DULUTH -- A suspicious package on a Gwinnett County Transit bus shut down traffic on part of Satellite Boulevard for several hours Monday before bomb squad personnel determined it was a hoax.
Gwinnett County police responded to the call of a suspicious package around 5:30 Monday afternoon, shutting down the strip of Satellite Boulevard between Hopkins Mill and Liddell Roads, spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said.
"It was reported to the bus driver and he stopped his bus at that location," Ritter said. "He evacuated the bus and contacted the police."
The bomb squad was called, and they determined it was a hoax device before reopening roads about 8 p.m.
Details were sparse Monday night, but Ritter said investigators do believe this incident was intentional, not just a misunderstanding.
"It was some type of hoax device made to look like a bomb," he said.
The culprit would likely be charged with terroristic acts and threats, a felony, Ritter said.
