BUFORD -- Four families were displaced from their homes late Sunday night after a fire destroyed a quadraplex on the 4600 block of Lois Drive in Buford, a fire department spokesman said.
The fire was reported about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, and when firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was billowing from the two-story, multi-family home, said Lt. Eric Eberly, the acting spokesman for the Gwinnett County Fire Department.
The blaze caused heavy damage to the unit where the fire originated, with minor smoke and water damage to the adjoining units, Eberly said. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
A total of 14 adults and nine children were displaced, and the Red Cross responded to provide assistance. One adult and one child had minor injury complaints and were transported to the hospital for evaluation, but no major injuries were reported.
