Sugar Hill to host party to welcome World Changers

SUGAR HILL -- The city of Sugar Hill is hosting a party Wednesday at E.E. Robinson Park to welcome the Southern Baptist Convention's World Changers.

World Changers is an approach to youth mission projects that focuses on hands-on work experience. With the sponsorship of the city and the Sugar Hill Housing Authority, 180 youths will be in town Monday through Saturday to paint, reroof, build handicap ramps and complete other minor fix-ups for needy home owners in Sugar Hill.

The city received applications from residents that needed minor repairs or help to maintain their home. After review by the World Changers construction manager, 10 homes were identified that met the requirements for help, according to a news release.

Each work group will have a senior adviser, and professional construction managers will be monitoring all work performed.

There will be no cost to the home owners for repairs. The Sugar Hill Housing Authority is financing the materials needed for work.

Sugar Hill Mayor Gary Pirkle initiated the contact with World Changers as a way to improve the well-being of some residents.

Wednesday's party will feature a cookout, music, games and fellowship.
