BUFORD -- A lightning strike may be the cause of a fire that displaced a family of four Friday night.
Gwinnett County firefighters responded to a home on the 250 block of Roberts Street in Buford just before 7:15 p.m., finding extensive smoke and fire conditions, spokesman Lt. Eric Eberly said.
Due to the severity of the fire, firefighters were forced out of the single-story home after initially battling it from inside.
The exact cause of the blaze is still under investigation, Eberly said, but the family reported that their home was struck by lightning just prior to the fire igniting.
The Red Cross was notified to assist the family.
