“Let’s just say it’s quite entertaining and never a dull moment,” Kelly said.
Based on the real life story of Frank and Lillian Gilbreth and their sizable family, “Cheaper by the Dozen” is set in 1920 in New Jersey and follows 17-year-old Anne Gilbreth as she struggles to grow up under the careful watch of a strict father who puts his methods for improving industrial efficiency to work managing his family. The results are terribly embarrassing for Anne but create comedic scenarios for the watching audience.
“People are going to be able to relate to it,” Kelly said. “Even though it’s dated back in 1920, kids are kids.”
New Dawn Theater will present “Cheaper by the Dozen” in its opening weekend with shows at 8 p.m. today and Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
“People will take away from this the love that they’ll feel from the cast and the dedication that parents have toward their children, these particular children,” Kelly said. “They’ll take away how every moment is precious and every moment counts.”
