NORCROSS -- An apparent dispute about a Norcross woman's children with another man resulted in a young couple going to jail and their infant son being taken into the custody of the Department of Family and Child Services, police said.
Gwinnett County police responded to the Bradford Gwinnett Apartments at 100 Castor Drive about 8 p.m. Monday to a domestic dispute call.
There, 22-year-old Dieteria Michisa Dupree told officers she was in a car with 20-year-old Joseph Shirlin Johnson and their infant son when she mentioned other children she had with another man, the police report said.
Dupree told officers that as soon as she did this, Johnson punched her in her face. She then admitted that, in retaliation, she stabbed him "with the knife that she keeps in the car," police said.
When police arrived on the scene, they found Johnson, blood dripping from his left thigh, and Dupree, her nose "possibly broken."
The altercation occurred in front of the couple's child, which was born this year. With both parents arrested, the young boy was taken into the care of DFCS on Monday night.
Facing charges of battery and third degree cruelty to children, Dupree remained in Gwinnett County Jail in lieu of $7,000 bond as of Wednesday evening.
Johnson, facing the same charges, posted $1,950 bond and was released Tuesday.
