BUFORD — An afternoon fire resulted in the total loss of a Buford home Monday, with a family pet dying after being caught in the blaze.
Gwinnett County firefighters responded to the two-story home on the 3600 block of South Puckett Road just after 4 p.m. Monday, finding heavy flames, spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said. The fire, which started in the garage, took multiple hoses and two engines to extinguish, Rutledge said. While the exact cause is undetermined, the homeowner reported that he parked his riding lawnmower inside the garage about 20 minutes prior to being alerted of the blaze by his wife. A vehicle parked in the garage was also lost. While firefighters were able to rescue one of the family’s dogs, a second was found deceased inside the home, Rutledge said. No other injuries were reported. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.More like this story
