PEOPLE IN BRIEF: Gibson focus of domestic violence inquiry

Gibson focus of domestic violence inquiry

LOS ANGELES -- Mel Gibson is being investigated in a possible domestic violence incident involving his ex-girlfriend earlier this year, sheriff's officials said Thursday.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department listed the actor-director as a potential suspect in the alleged attack on Russian singer Oksana Grigorieva at an undisclosed location in Malibu.

The two have been involved in a nasty custody dispute over their infant daughter -- the subject of a confidential court case.

Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said detectives interviewed Grigorieva on Monday. She has been the only person interviewed so far.

Whitmore declined to disclose further details of the investigation or any potential evidence.

Larry King, wife withdraw divorce filings

LOS ANGELES -- Court records show Larry King and his wife have withdrawn competing divorce petitions filed in Los Angeles.

Records show divorce proceedings were dismissed on Wednesday.

The move comes nearly three months after the host of CNN's ''Larry King Live'' filed to end his nearly 13-year marriage to his seventh wife, Shawn. She also sought to end the marriage, but the couple soon reconciled.

King announced his retirement last month. He cited the desire to spend more time with his wife and two young sons as one of the benefits of ending his show after 25 years.

Distributor 20th Century Fox announced Thursday that Cameron's special edition of ''Avatar'' will debut exclusively in digital 3-D and IMAX 3-D theaters on Aug. 27.

Cameron said the added footage will include new creatures and action scenes.
