Judge sends Lohan to jail for violation

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- A judge sentenced Lindsay Lohan to 90 days in jail Tuesday after ruling she violated probation in a 2007 drug case by failing to attend court-ordered alcohol education classes.

Lohan burst into tears after the sentencing by Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel.

Lohan was not required to immediately surrender but will have to turn herself in on July 20. She will also be required to enter an inpatient rehab program after her release from jail.

The ruling came during a hearing set for the ''Mean Girls'' star after she missed a court date in May. She has been required to wear an ankle alcohol monitor since then.

Queen Elizabeth challenges UN to spearhead responses

UNITED NATIONS -- Queen Elizabeth II challenged the United Nations on Tuesday to spearhead the international response to global dangers and promote prosperity and dignity for all the world's inhabitants.

''In my lifetime, the United Nations has moved from being a high-minded aspiration to being a real force for common good,'' the 84-year-old British monarch told diplomats from the 192 U.N. member states. ''That of itself has been a signal achievement. But we are not here to reminisce. In tomorrow's world, we must all work together as hard as ever if we are truly to be United Nations.''

George Michael arrested after car accident

LONDON -- British media reports say George Michael has been arrested after a car crash in London.

The BBC said the 47-year-old singer was arrested Sunday after police responded to reports that a car had crashed into a building in Hampstead, an upscale residential area in north London.

Metropolitan Police said only that they arrested a man in his 40s early Sunday in Hampstead on suspicion of being unfit to drive. They say the man was taken to a police station and released on bail pending further inquiries.

The singer's publicists in London declined comment Tuesday.
