COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- University of Connecticut star Maya Moore will play for the USA Basketball Women's national team in the WNBA vs. USA Basketball game July 10 in Uncasville, Conn.
Moore, a Collins Hill grad, was selected to the U.S. team Thursday along with WNBA players Diana Taurasi (Phoenix), Sue Bird (Seattle), Swin Cash (Seattle), Tamika Catchings (Indiana), Tina Charles (Connecticut), Candice Dupree (Phoenix), Sylvia Fowles (Chicago), Angel McCoughtry (Atlanta), Renee Montgomery (Connecticut) and Cappie Pondexter (New York).
Along with the game, the United States will conduct a training camp July 7-11 with all available members from the national team pool participating.
''This training camp is the first and only opportunity that I'm going to have the chance to be with the majority of the players that were in the last Olympics that were a part of our core group,'' said Geno Auriemma, the UConn coach who will guide the national team through 2012. ''So whatever amount of time we have, it's going to be used in the best way that we can.''
