LAWRENCEVILLE -- A Buford road will be relocated today as part of the long-awaited Gravel Springs bridge widening project.
The $11.2 million construction project is set to widen the two-lane roadway into a four-lane divided highway across Interstate 85 to connect with portions of Ga. Highway 324 that have already been widened. To complete it, though the intersection with Morgan Road is being moved east, farther away from the bridge.
"This will greatly improve sight distance for motorists.," said Georgia Department of Transportation District Engineer Randall Davis. "So while we are widening SR 324, we are permanently moving Morgan Road. We expect to open the new intersection of Morgan and 324 this Friday afternoon. Please slow down through the area, use caution and do what the signage tell you. This change is quite intuitive once you see it,"
The widening project, which is funded by federal stimulus dollars, is about one-quarter complete and expected to be finished by May 31, 2012.
