LAWRENCEVILLE -- Investigators with the Gwinnett County Fire Department have charged a Lawrenceville woman in connection with a fire that heavily damaged her home on Jan. 9.
According to reports, 52-year-old Judith Laura Anderson faces first-degree arson charges in the incident. Investigators believe Anderson, the only person home at the time, set fire to her Gates Mill Drive home just after 7:30 p.m. and escaped through a back door.
Gwinnett Fire spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said that a cat left inside the home did not survive the blaze.
Rutledge said that evidence from inside the home sent to a fire forensics lab was analyzed and found to be positive for a flammable liquid accelerant.
Anderson was arrested after being questioned Tuesday, reports said, though investigators have not released a possible motive.
If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in prison.
Jail records show Anderson is being held in the Gwinnett County Jail on $11,200 bond.
