LAWRENCEVILLE -- A group of local residents will rally outside the Gwinnett County Health Department today, urging lawmakers to immediately pass a strong health care reform bill.
Members of MoveOn Gwinnett, an 11,000-member group, will congregate outside the health department at 455 Grayson Highway at 4 p.m., organizers said.
According to them, passing this legislation is not optional.
Rally organizer Glenda Poindexter said she believes it's time for senators and congressmen to stand up for Georgia's citizens instead of corporate interests.
"With the large number of unemployed workers in our state who cannot afford health insurance, and with health insurance premiums increasing at more than three times the rate of inflation, now is not the time to scale back or give up on health care reform for American families," she said.
According to the organization, recent studies suggest that without health care reform, health care will cost the nation $4.4 trillion by 2018.
