Prep Roundup: Broncos claim North Metro title

SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood put four wrestlers in the finals of the North Metro tournament on Saturday to claim the team championship.

The Broncos scored 158.5 points to beat Centennial (129.5), Hillcrest, S.C. (124), Peachtree Ridge (104.5) and Fayette County (95.6). North Gwinnett and Parkview tied for sixth with 96 points and Berkmar was eighth.

Sean Thomas was Brookwood's only champion at 103 pounds. Jon Daniel (112 pounds), Chris Roman (171) and Vincent Ogbonnia (285) were runner-up.

North Gwinnett's Steven Epps (135) and Carl Rider (160) were champions along with Peachtree Ridge's Tsvetomir Petrushev (152) and Michael Chapman (171). Central's Jacob Aiken-Phillips won at 285 pounds to improve to 47-0 for the season with 40 pins.

Parkview's Matt Johnson was named the tournament's most outstanding heavyweight wrestler after winning the 215-pound weight class.


Buford's Steinlage wins title

Buford freshman Tucker Steinlage won the 160-pound title at the ninth-grade Gwinnett County tournament on Saturday. Steinlage won all four matches by pin.

Spencer Hutchins placed fourth at 112 at the North Metro tournament on Saturday.


Meadowcreek 63, Grayson 59

LOGANVILLE -- Meadowcreek edged Grayson 63-59 on a pair of double-doubles.

Terrance Glass led the Mustangs (15-3, 9-1 Region 8-AAAAA) with 20 points and 14 rebounds and Lavon Hooks scored 13 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and had five assists.

Max Sairclough scored 19 and Javarris Smith added 16 for Grayson (11-8, 5-5).


Grayson 66, Meadowcreek 49

LOGANVILLE -- Taren White scored 21 points and Anela Durmic followed with 20 as Grayson blew past Meadowcreek 66-49 in girls basketball.

While also pulled down seven rebounds and Durmic had five assists.

Anna LeCavera scored 11 for the Rams (9-11, 5-5 Region 8-AAAAA).
