Engineers declared U.S. Highway 78 safe Monday morning after a weekend water leak created headaches for travelers in the Snellville area. He called police to report a possible burglary in progress at the 6504 Mimosa Circle residence. Catering to the "victims" next door, Gwinnett police reportedly found more than they'd bargained for.

Republican gubernatorial hopeful John Oxendine broke state law by hunting without having completed a safety course, state investigators concluded Monday.

Lawrenceville man charged in kidnapping, rape

A Lawrenceville man is behind bars after police said he kidnapped and raped a Duluth girl sometime between the afternoon of Jan. 19 and Saturday evening. Cirilo Ramirez, 25, is being held on several charges, including rape, kidnapping, false imprisonment, theft and carrying a concealed weapon. Jail records show the El Savador native also faces a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold.

Engineers to discuss Ga. 316 intersection changes at open house

Engineers will discuss three projects that could transform Ga. Highway 316 in Barrow County. A public open house is scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 4 to discuss the proposed reconstruction of the intersections at Ga. Highways 81, 11 and 53 to grade-separated interchanges, officials announced.

By unanimous vote Monday night, Snellville City Council members approved attorney Tony Powell's contract for services with the city. Powell replaces former Snellville city attorney Mike Williams, who was not re-appointed to his seat after miscalculating the number of days legally required between the call for a referendum and the vote deciding Sunday alcohol sales.

SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood put four wrestlers in the finals of the North Metro tournament on Saturday to claim the team championship.The Broncos scored 158.5 points to beat Centennial (129.5), Hillcrest, S.C. Swim and Dive Roundup: Hernandez repeats as Gwinnett champ

Wesleyan junior Zach Hernandez repeated as champion of the Gwinnett Invitational diving this past weekend.Hernandez won the boys division with an All-American score of 444.35 points, defeating runner-up and fellow All-American Seth Burgmeier of Mill Creek. Burgmeier had 389.40 points.
