“SMITTY” Thomas Elliott “Smitty” Smith, age 77 of Monroe passed away January 22, 2010. Memorial Services will be Monday, January 25, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Chaplain Duke Forster officiating. He was born in Chattooga County on October 19, 1932 to Clarabel Jarrett & Alvin Horace Smith. Mr. Smith graduated from Tucker High School in 1950, where he was a great football player. He retired from the Gwinnett County Police Department with the rank of Lieutenant. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael Leon Smith, two brothers: Franklin R. Smith and Horace Smith. He is survived by companion of 11 yrs, Virginia Irvin; daughter & son-in-law: Jennifer & Jon McGaughey, Loganville; sons & daughters-in-law: Scott & Rhonda Smith, Loganville; Tony & Holly Smith, Trenton, FL; granddaughter: Bonnie Malcom; great granddaughter: Natalie Pranjkic; and great grandson: Daniel Pranjkic. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to The American Cancer Society, Gwinnett County Unit, 6500 Sugarloaf Parkway, Ste 260, Duluth, GA 30097.
