“SMITTY” Thomas Elliott “Smitty” Smith, age 77 of Monroe passed away January 22, 2010. Memorial Services will be Monday, January 25, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Chaplain Duke Forster officiating. He was born in Chattooga County on October 19, 1932 to Clarabel Jarrett & Alvin Horace Smith. Mr. Smith graduated from Tucker High School in 1950, where he was a great football player. He retired from the Gwinnett County Police Department with the rank of Lieutenant. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Michael Leon Smith, two brothers: Franklin R. Smith and Horace Smith. He is survived by companion of 11 yrs, Virginia Irvin; daughter & son-in-law: Jennifer & Jon McGaughey, Loganville; sons & daughters-in-law: Scott & Rhonda Smith, Loganville; Tony & Holly Smith, Trenton, FL; granddaughter: Bonnie Malcom; great granddaughter: Natalie Pranjkic; and great grandson: Daniel Pranjkic. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to The American Cancer Society, Gwinnett County Unit, 6500 Sugarloaf Parkway, Ste 260, Duluth, GA 30097. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 4-8 PM at Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 670 Tom Brewer Rd. Loganville, GA 30052. 770-466-1544.
