LILBURN -- A 19-year-old Lilburn resident was hospitalized Friday after he crashed into a telephone pole while sending a text message on his cell phone, Lilburn police said.
Soheb Roy suffered head trauma in the one-vehicle crash Friday morning at Arcado Road and Wayside Court in Lilburn, according to a news release. He was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center by Gwinnett County Emergency Medical Services.
Roy was traveling southbound on Arcado Road in his 2004 Acura RSX at about 9:45 a.m. Friday when he left the roadway and hit the telephone pole, which snapped at its base and blocked the roadway, the news release states. The vehicle was totaled in the incident.
Statements gathered at the scene indicate Roy was texting a friend on his cell phone when the crash occurred, the news release states. Neither drugs nor alcohol factored into the wreck.
Roy faces charges of failure to maintain lane and improper use of a cell phone while driving.
