LAWRENCEVILLE -- Anna Creecy frequents Einstein Bros. Bagels once a week.
After Wednesday, the Lawrenceville resident will be able to order up a free breakfast sandwich on each of her visits for the next year.
Creecy was first in line Wednesday morning when the new Einstein Bros. location in Lawrenceville opened its doors and greeted the first 100 customers with booklets containing coupons for 52 free breakfast sandwiches.
"That's what brought me out here to win today," Creecy said of the offer. "I love Einstein Bagels and I wanted to be No. 1."
She and a couple of friends arrived at Einstein's about 2 a.m. Wednesday to secure the first few spots in line. When 3:30 a.m. rolled around and employees began arriving, about 60 people had gathered outside the store.
"When I got to the building at 3 there were already lawn chairs out there waiting for us to open the doors," said Scott Temme, area business manager for Einstein's.
By 5:30 a.m., when the doors swung open, more than 100 people had joined the line that started at the entrance and snaked around the corner of the building.
"The opportunity to get a free bagel once a week for a year is a good promotion, a good special," said Jack Puburn, who has been an Einstein's customer for years and got one of the coupon booklets. The new location is just three to four minutes away from his Lawrenceville home.
While Leigh Powell hadn't frequented Einstein Bros. Bagels before, the location was the draw.
"I caught the announcement on Google and when I realized that the location was so close to home I thought, well, I'll give it a shot and see if I make the first 100," she said. "(But) I wasn't going to camp out all night."
