LILBURN -- Lilburn's greenway will soon stretch through more of the city.

Officials broke ground earlier this month on a second phase of the Camp Creek Greeway Trail, which currently stretches from Rockbridge Road to Main Street.

The path is already about 1.5 miles along, including spurs that allow people from neighborhoods to walk to the City Park.

In a construction project expected to last until the summer, the path will be extended by 1.04 miles, connecting residents on the east side of the city from Killian Hill Road to Main Street.

The extension includes two branches, one following Camp Creek for 0.7 miles and other through property owned by the city, a press release said.

More than three-quarters of the length will be paved trail with about 0.23 miles of boardwark and some bridge work.

The project is funded through county sales tax dollars and state grants, the release said.

City officials said the greenway "promotes a healthy lifestyle and decreases traffic congestion."
