LAWRENCEVILLE -- Eighth-grade students in Gwinnett County interested in registering for the 2011 freshman class of Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology have until Jan. 22 to complete registration documents.
GSMST is a system charter school, approved by the Gwinnett County Board of Education. The 2011 freshman class, comprised of 250 students, will be the fourth class to join the high school.
Information on how to register at GSMST was made available to students and parents in November at all Gwinnett County Public Schools middle schools and on the school
district's Web site, www.gwinnett.k12.ga.us, as well as the school's Web site, www.gsmst.org.
To accommodate increased interest in attending GSMST, the school system has a process in place to conduct a random lottery, as required by the Georgia Charter Act, if the registrations exceed the class capacity, according to a news release. Enrollment is open to all current eighth-grade students who complete promotion requirements and who reside in Gwinnett County. The school anticipates it will accept 250 students for the 2011 freshman class.
GSMST opened in 2007 on the Duluth High campus. In August, the school will move to its permanent location in Lawrenceville.
