Gwinnett Medical Center will host a seminar on injury prevention in youth baseball, as well as a coaching clinic that includes Atlanta Braves coach Brian Snitker and a pro pitcher, this Saturday at Gwinnett Stadium.
Speakers at the seminar are T. Scott Maughon, doctor and chairman of GMC's sports medicine program, Braves director of medical services emeritus Joseph Chandler and physical therapist Lloyd Van Pamelen of Gwinnett Sports Rehab and the Atlanta Braves.
They will address injuries in baseball and throwing sports, shoulder and elbow rehab for overhead throwers and other topics. Snitker, the Atlanta Braves' third-base coach, then will speak about running an effective practice. A round-table discussion will follow the speakers, then lunch will be served. A breakout session on pitching mechanics with a pro pitcher will follow lunch.
The event is designed for parents and coaches, but players 10-and-older are welcome to attend. Registration begins at 8:15 a.m., with the introduction planned for 9 a.m.
Pre-registration is required by contacting Tim Simmons at firstname.lastname@example.org or 678-312-6018. Registration deadline is today.
Registration fee is $15 and includes lunch, handouts, a DVD and the book "Until It Hurts."
