DACULA -- The funerals for two teenagers who died after falling through the ice on a semi-frozen pond have been scheduled.
Jacob Bullock, 14, and Marvens Mathurin, 13, both eighth-graders at Osborne Middle School, died Saturday after the ice broke beneath them as they played on the pond in Dacula's Daniel Park subdivision. They were submerged for nearly an hour before rescuers were able to locate their bodies and pull them from the icy water using 10-foot pike poles.
Bullock's funeral will start at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hopewell Baptist Church, 182 Hunter St. in Norcross. His family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home & Crematory's Gwinnett Chapel, 914 Scenic Highway in Lawrenceville, according to his obituary.
Mathurin's funeral has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Jan. 23 at Hebron Baptist Church in Dacula, according to an official from Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. His family will receive visitors from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 22 at the church, located at 202 Hebron Church Road.
A third teen who fell through the ice, Alex Paul, was able to pull himself from the pond and was treated for hypothermia and shock.
