LAWRENCEVILLE -- Gwinnett Federal Credit Union's Board of Directors, employees and members joined forces with The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program in Gwinnett County.
The Angel Tree Program provides children and seniors facing hardships with Christmas gifts. Because of the demands of a tough economy and an overwhelming number of "Angel" requests, this year the Salvation Army was in need of local businesses to assist in filling these wishes.
Gwinnett Federal Credit Union employees voluntarily collected donations, shopped and filled 100 "Angel" requests. The "Angels" were needy children ranging in age from infants to teens with requests from socks to bikes.
Gwinnett Federal promoted the program with "Angel" requests on Christmas trees at all locations.
Ballet theater sponsors food drive
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Southern Ballet Theatre sponsored its first food drive in December to benefit the Lawrenceville Cooperative Ministry.
Southern Ballet Theatre is a nonprofit semi-professional dance company dedicated to educating, promoting and increasing appreciation of dance in Gwinnett County and the surrounding communities. It consists of about 40 dancers from the apprentice division to the professional division.
The dancers invited students of the Lawrenceville School of Ballet to participate in the food drive since the school is the home of Southern Ballet Theatre. Contributions made were enough to feed six families for a week each.
Laurie Fletcher headed up the drive and was assisted by several dancers with the delivery of the food to the co-op.
