PREP ROUNDUP: Hawks three-peat at Gwinnett Open

WINDER -- Mill Creek won the Gwinnett Open Girls Golf Tournament with 83 points in the modified stableford format, winning the annual tournament for the third straight time.

Chattahoochee finished second with 76, GAC was third with 71, Collins Hill came in fourth with 66, Brookwood finished seventh with 51 points and Wesleyan came in 10th with 45 points.

Collins Hill's Lauren Court was the individual winner with a 42, tying Mill Creek grad Emilie Burger's tournament record. Kaylee Random (Chattahoochee) scored 39, Lindsay Adams (GAC) totaled 37, Judy Nam (Mill Creek) finished fourth at 36.

Lions win tourney

CUMMING -- Peachtree Ridge won the Coal Mountain Classic with a score of 303 at the Hampton Golf Village on Saturday.

Aaron Jeong was the low medalist with a 73, Zach Estep shot a 74, and Victor Choi and Ben Lee each shot 78 for the Lions.

BASEBALL

Collins Hill 9, Cartersville 6

SUWANEE -- James Buckelew earned the win for the Eagles by striking out three batters, and allowing no runs on two hits to help Collins Hill defeat Cartersville 9-6 on Saturday.

Cameron Starling struck out one batter in the seventh inning to get the save for Collins Hill. Buckelew and Grant Earls each had two RBIs, while A.J. Farris was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Spencer Horridge added a double for the Eagles (1-0).

GAC 14, Berkmar 3

LILBURN -- Greater Atlanta Christian beat Berkmar 14-3 on Saturday.

Chris Treager was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Berkmar (1-2).

Parkview 14, McEachern 2

POWDER SPRINGS -- Jesse Foster went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a grand slam for Parkview, to help the Panthers top McEachern 14-2 on Saturday.

On the mound, Foster gave up five hits, two runs and struck out seven batters in six innings to earn the win for Parkview. Josh Hart was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs, while Austin Wheeler went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a triple and a home run. Zack Reinstein was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and Matt Olson had an RBI double for Parkview (2-0).

Mill Creek 9, Lowndes 4

HOSCHTON -- Jerad Curry went 3-for-3 with a single, double, home run, three runs and two RBIs for Mill Creek, as the Hawks took a 9-4 win over Lowndes on Saturday.

Eric Alonzo was 2-for-4 with a double, run and RBI, Greg Brody was 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and Tyler Puckett had a pinch hit RBI single for Mill Creek (1-0).

Chip Fleming picked up the win for Mill Creek after tossing four innings in relief, striking out three and giving up a run, a hit and a double, while Mason Kelt gave up three runs and three hits in three innings for the Hawks.

South Paulding 6, Duluth 0

DULUTH -- Duluth lost 6-0 to South Paulding on Saturday.

John Clark gave up four earned runs and a walk in 41/3 innings and got the loss for the Wildcats, while Evan Dumas, David Matton, Chris Rich and Blake Birdson each had hits for Duluth (0-1).

Ola 8, North 5

SUWANEE -- Christopher Hawkins tallied his 100th career hit for North Gwinnett (1-1) in a 8-5 loss to Ola on Saturday.

Hawkins was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two doubles, the second hit his 100th. Nick Jones went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a double and Luke Tindol also had a double for the Lions. Will Bates got the loss on the mound. North plays again Monday at 5:55 p.m. instead of Tuesday due to the threat of bad weather.

Hebron 23, Stephens Co. 3

WATKINSVILLE -- Hebron finished with a total of 23 hits and seven home runs, including an 18-run inning that saw six home runs as the Lions defeated Stephens County 23-3 in four innings on Saturday.

Hunter Carroll had three solo home runs, Danny Lockhart added two more and had six RBIs, and Seth Gower totaled two home runs and four RBIs for Hebron.

Kevin Burgee (1-0) struck out five batters in three innings for the Lions (3-0).

Mountain View falls to Brunswick, Richmond Hill

BRUNSWICK -- Mountain View fell to Brunswick 11-2 on Friday night, and Richmond Hill 7-0 on Saturday at the Baseball on the Beach Tournament.

On Friday against Brunswick, Beau Blair was 3-for-3, Tyler Bethune was 2-for-4 with a run, and Mori Cortorreal got the loss on the mound for Mountain View.

Against Richmond Hill, Adam Dowell and Garry Gwaltney each had a hit for the Bears. Beau Blair pitched three innings and was the losing pitcher for Mountain View.

Collins Hill 2, Milton 1

SNELLVILLE -- Collins Hill had goals from Mariah Dickey and Loren Mitchell, with an assist from Lauren Hoover to help the Eagles (3-0) beat Milton 2-1 at the Brookwood Johnny's Pizza Invitational on Saturday.

Brookwood 4, Kennesaw Mountain 0

SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood took a 4-0 victory over Kennesaw Mountain on Saturday at the Johnny's Pizza Invitational.

Ashley Gray led the Broncos with two goals and Washida Blackman and Caitlin Ruddick each scored a goal for Brookwood.

Peachtree Ridge 5, Shiloh 0

SUWANEE -- Katie Lyle and Leigh Warfield shared time in goal to help Peachtree Ridge shut out Shiloh 5-0 on Saturday.

Alexis Scott and Jules Luther each scored two goals, while Alanna Dineen added a goal for the Lions (3-0).

Baillie Burmaster and Scott had two assists, and Shelby Jennings helped with an assist for Peachtree Ridge. Shiloh's Ngozi Ihenacho had 12 saves in goal.

Walton 2, GAC 1

MARIETTA -- Kayla Puzas scored Greater Atlanta Christian's (1-2) only goal, as the Spartans lost to Walton 2-1 at the Walker Showcase on Saturday

Dacula 6, Evans 0

DACULA -- Courtney Powell led the Falcons with two goals to help Dacula shut out Evans 6-0 on Saturday.

Bryna Lamb contributed a goal and assist, while Emily Kubal, Ruva Chimedza and Chloe Stegeman each scored a goal for Dacula.

Mindy Johnson also had an assist for Dacula (1-2).

Mill Creek 5, Flowery Branch 0

FLOWERY BRANCH -- Lauren Tanner led the Hawks with two goals and an assist to help Mill Creek defeat Flowery Branch 5-0 on Saturday.

Torie Scalera and Lindsay Kempf each contributed a goal and an assist, while Megan Grizzard also scored a goal for Mill Creek (3-0). Tessa Lukens registered the shutout in goal for the Hawks.

Providence 3, Savannah Christian 2

SAVANNAH -- Jesse Kowalewicz helped Providence with several big saves in goal, as the Stars took a 3-2 win over Savannah Christian on Saturday.

Emily Bougas had a goal and two assists, while Brooke Kelly contributed a goal and an assist. Allie Petmecky added a goal for Providence.

Brookwood 5, Kennesaw Mountain 1

SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood beat Kennesaw Mountain 5-1 at the Johnny's Pizza Invitational on Saturday.

Matt Nagle, Adrian Alabi, Erick Yang, Stephan Gojic and Scott Eidson each scored a goal for the Broncos.

SNELLVILLE -- Collins Hill took a 3-1 win over Milton on Saturday at Brookwood's Johnny's Pizza Invitational.

Goals were scored by Zak Wallingford, Ricky Ortega and Malcolm Miller, with an assist by Peter Kurowski for the Eagles (3-0)

ATLANTA -- Greater Atlanta Christian (1-2) fell to Westminster 2-1 on Saturday.

Denzel Clarke scored the Spartans' lone goal, with six saves in goal by Matt Watts.

Peachtree Ridge 3, Shiloh 1

SUWANEE -- Mitch Kupstas and Tyler Young split time in goal for the Lions, as Peachtree Ridge topped Shiloh 3-1 on Saturday.

Peachtree Ridge (2-1) had goals by George Green, Michael Niebanck and Anthony Aguilar, with assists by Andres Rodriguez and Juan Herrera. Cooper Davis scored Shiloh's only goal.

Mountain View 3, Archer 1

SUWANEE -- Dustin Stone led with two goals, while Damian Paz added another for Mountain View to help the Bears take a 3-1 victory over Archer at Lambert on Saturday.

Assists were made by Eric Nunez, Alberto Rojas and Yorbi Mendez for Mountain View (1-2).

Mill Creek 3, Flowery Branch 2, OT

FLOWERY BRANCH -- Connor Troy's goal with six seconds left in the second overtime pushed Mill Creek to a 3-2 win over Flowery Branch.

Chris Eaton had a goal and an assist, while Mason York added a goal for Mill Creek. Austin Butler had two assists, while Mac Sinclair also had an assist for the Hawks (2-1).

Hebron 3, Oglethorpe 1

FORT OGLETHORPE -- Hebron scored all its goals in the last five minutes to beat Oglethorpe 3-1 and win the championship at the Oglethorpe Cup Tournament on Saturday.

Austin Pinto contributed a goal and an assist, while Sean McCullough and Cody Gardner each scored one goal apiece. Kevin Sharpton had an assist for the Lions (2-0).

Providence 0

SAVANNAH -- Providence (1-2) fell to Savannah Christian 1-0 on Saturday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

GAC wins shootout

NORCROSS -- Greater Atlanta Christian kept a spotless record of 4-0, after beating Greenbrier (14-5) and Lambert (7-3) to win the Lady Spartan Shootout on Saturday.

Against Greenbrier, GAC's Lyndsey Kytle scored five goals and was named MVP of the tournament. Missy Roughgarden contributed four goals, while Caroline Freeman added three and Amanda Jordan scored one for the Spartans.

In the second game for GAC, Kytle led with four goals, while Casey Cox, Amanda Jordan and Roughgarden each scored a goal for the Spartans.

BOYS LACROSSE

Peachtree Ridge 16, Sprayberry 13

SUWANEE -- Jennifer Hennelly led the Lions with six goals, and Caitlin Palanza added three as Peachtree Ridge took a 16-13 win over Sprayberry on Saturday.

Lovett 11, Wesleyan 7

LILBURN -- Hunter Hartwell led the Wolves with three goals and Davis Brown added two but Wesleyan fell to Lovett 11-7 on Saturday (1-1).

Parkview 11, Duluth 10

DULUTH -- Parkview defeated Duluth 11-10 on Friday night.

David Kelley scored three goals and Justin Dixon added two for Duluth (0-1).

GIRLS TRACK

Providence finishes third in tourney

FAIRBURN -- Providence came in third place in the Landmark Invitational on Saturday.

Allison Preg came in second in the 1,600-meter run with Aubrey Gold finishing second in the 400. Mallory McQuaig earned second place in the shot put, and third place in discus, with Ashley Flagg coming in third in the high jump for Providence.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

Providence comes in third

FAIRBURN -- Providence finished third as a team in the Landmark Invitational on Saturday.

Eric Mills finished first in the 400 and second in the 200, while James Watkins came in second in the 3,200 and third in the 1,600 for Providence. Chris Vanderkleed was third in the high jump for the Stars.
