The Sweetwater and Apalachee Districts of the Boy Scouts of America held their 33rd annual Yule Log Program Dec. 12 at Scoutland on Lake Lanier. The purpose of the event was to collect food items for local co-ops and organizations that minister to people in need. The Yule Log was hidden and each of the 42 troops in attendance had to follow a compass course to find the log. 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of Boy Scouts in the United States.
Snellville youth earns rank of Eagle Scout
Jose Salgado, an 8th-grader at Snellville Middle School, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He is the son of John and Jane McCormick of Snellville. Jose is a member of Troop 582 at St. Oliver's Catholic Church in Snellville. He completed his Eagle Scout Service Project by supervising the restoration of the youth center at Westminister Presbyterian Church. Jose has earned 24 merit badges and serves as a patrol leader.
Lilburn youth earns rank of Eagle Scout
Kyle Cowdrick, a junior at Brookwood High School, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
He is the son of Bob and Emily Cowdrick of Lilburn. Kyle is a member of Troop 504 of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lilburn. He completed his Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project by building a Rosary Walk at St. John Neumann Church in Lilburn. Kyle has earned 31 merit badges.
Lawrenceville youth earns rank of Eagle Scout
Max Fairclough, a senior at Grayson High School, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
He is the son of Tom and Mylene Fairclough of Lawrenceville. Fairclough is a member of Troop 583 sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Dacula.
He completed his Eagle Scout Service Project by collecting children's books from the community and donating them to the Quinn House shelter. Fairclough plans to attend Brigham Young University in the fall.
