If the sounds of live music were visible, a cloud of notes painted in deep reds, oranges and golds would hover around the entrance to Ziggy's Jazz and Blues.
From quick trills bursting from an alto sax to the deep rumble of a bass guitar, the music sets the mood sweet, smooth and relaxed to flirty and fast inside the Lawrenceville music and tapas bar.
Low lighting the flicker of candlelight on tables, the dim bar lighting and stage lights directed only on the performers creates an intimate lounge atmosphere where just the hum of conversation can be heard over the live music.
According to Derwin Jackson, entertainment and marketing manager for the venue, "When it's jazz time, it's Ziggy's time."
Jackson should know. He does double duty as a manager and a performer, lending his fingers to a keyboard in Ziggy's house act, Derwin Jackson and The Next Level Band.
"This is the place to be," Jackson told the crowd on a recent Friday night. "Sit back, relax and enjoy."
Tunes and tapas on tap
The live music brought to you by Ziggy's is served along with a tapas menu featuring a few selections that are more like small meals, from the house specialty Ziggy's kabobs on fiesta rice to chicken tenders and fries. A full range of drinks is offered, including sodas, beer, wine and liquor.
On Wednesdays and Thursdays, Ziggy's pairs blues music with barbecue, serving barbecue chicken tenders, baby back ribs and a barbecue pulled chicken sandwich, along with salad selections.
Live music is offered at 8 and 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Ziggy's Jazz and Blues is at 860 Duluth Highway, Suite 450, in Lawrenceville. For more information on the venue, visit www.ziggysjazzandblues.com.
