Recently reviewed films now playing in theaters:

* Blood Done Sign My Name (PG-13) A thoroughly well-intended but largely rudimentary and stiff period piece Civil Rights drama based on the murder of a North Carolina black man in 1970. Although visually accurate, the low-rent made-for-TV aesthetics are a big distraction. 2 stars -- Michael Clark

* Creation (PG-13) Not the biography of Charles Darwin (Paul Bettany), but more of an angular examination of his writing and research processes for "On the Origin of the Species" and the strained relationship with his ultra-religious wife Emma (Jennifer Connelly). 3 stars -- MC

* Shutter Island (R) For their fourth feature collaboration, leading man Leonardo DiCaprio and director Martin Scorsese deliver an atmospherically rich, mishmash genre flick that owes much to Alfred Hitchcock's "North by Northwest" and "Vertigo" but with a weaker plot.

3 stars -- MC
