The Damned United
Blu-ray
(R)
Movie: 3 1/2 out of 4 stars
Disc: 3 1/2 out of 4 stars
Ugly, angry and in your face in all the right ways, "The Damned United" is the perfect antidote to the typical saccharine-laden sports drama. If you're not a big sports fan or consider non-U.S. football to be a crushing bore you'll be glad to hear the sports angle is noticeably downplayed here. Played up is the mercurial relationship of the patently unlikable lead character Brian Clough (Michael Sheen) and his long-suffering assistant coach Peter Taylor (Timothy Spall). The movie takes good care of the drama while the four featurettes cover every possible connection to the history of the real-life characters.
Technical specs: aspect ratio: Widescreen (1080p/1.85:1), audio: English (5.1 Dolby Digital DTS-HD), subtitles: English, French, Portuguese, Arabic, Dutch and Spanish.
