LOS ANGELES -- Conan O'Brien may be taking his act on the road and even overseas.
O'Brien's exit deal with NBC barred the former ''Tonight'' host from TV appearances for several months. He is weighing a tour that would take him directly to his fans, according to a person familiar with the proposal.
The person, who was not authorized to publicly discuss the plans, spoke on condition of anonymity.
Details are unsettled, the person said, but O'Brien may perform live in U.S. venues, including college campuses, and head to Europe. An O'Brien spokesman declined comment.
Polanski best director at Berlin film festival
BERLIN -- The Turkish film ''Bal,'' or ''Honey,'' won the top Golden Bear award Saturday at the 60th annual Berlin film festival, whose jury also crowned Roman Polanski best director.
Polanski, whose film ''The Ghost Writer,'' debuted at the festival, was unable to attend the ceremony, as he remains under house arrest in his Swiss chalet in Gstaad.
Producer Alain Sarde, who accepted the prize on Polanski's behalf, said the director told him he would not have attended the festival even if he had been free, ''because the last time I traveled to accept an award I landed in jail.''
Polanski was arrested when he arrived in Zurich on Sept. 26 to receive a lifetime achievement award from a film festival. The Swiss must decide whether to extradite him to the U.S. to face possible further sentencing in a 32-year-old sex case.
Duff engaged to hockey player
EDMONTON, Alberta -- Here's something for ''Gossip Girl'' to talk about.
Actress and singer Hilary Duff, who had a recurring guest role on the popular CW series last season, is engaged to Edmonton Oilers forward Mike Comrie.
Publicist Nanci Ryder said the two were engaged last weekend while vacationing in Hawaii. She says in an e-mail distributed by the Oilers on Friday that the two ''are very excited to share this happy news.''
The 22-year-old Duff and 29-year-old Comrie had been dating for more than two years.
