LAWRENCEVILLE -- Bethesda's young athletes could soon see all new fields, thanks to the work of community boosters.
This month, commissioners accepted a $30,681 donation from the Brookwood Athletic Association to go toward improvements to the seven youth baseball/softball fields at the Lawrenceville-area park.
Last week, park-goers got another boost when commissioners agreed to allow the boosters to contribute another set of upgrades -- new scoreboards for the fields.
The upgrades are expected to be in place in time for the spring season, including work by Championship Field Construction to improve the fields' drainage and infield surface, new bases and home plates and other repairs.
The 159-acre park, located on Bethesda Church Road, also features 1.5 miles of paved trails, a football field, three adult sports fields, six soccer fields, a senior recreation area, indoor aquatic center, playgrounds, pavilions, outdoor basketball courts and a horseshoe pit.
