Mangimelli 2nd for Georgia at SEC meet

ATHENS -- Georgia freshman Jana Mangimelli, a Brookwood grad, placed second in the 400-yard individual medley Friday night at the SEC Swimming and Diving Championships.

Mangimelli swam the race in a Bulldog-record 4 minutes, 5.33 seconds, an NCAA Championships "A" cut, to narrowly finish second behind Florida sophomore Teresa Crippen (4:05.07). The former Bronco's time broke an 11-year-old UGA record by two seconds.

Mangimelli, the only freshman in the eight-swimmer A final, also is the meet's highest-scoring freshman going into today's final events.
