NORCROSS -- The Parkview boys led Meadowcreek by eight points in the second quarter Wednesday night. Then the Mustangs showed why they are the No. 4-ranked team in Class AAAAA.
Meadowcreek (22-4) outscored the Panthers 22-7 in the third quarter and rolled to an 81-53 victory in the Region 8-AAAAA tournament at Meadowcreek.
The victory qualified No. 1-seeded Mustangs for the state tournament and set up a region semifinal game with either No. 4 seed Shiloh or No. 5 seed Dacula at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
Terrance Glass had 21 points and eight rebounds for Meadowcreek, which placed five players in double figures. John Ruff had 16 points and Lavon Hooks contributed 14 points and 13 rebounds. Aaron Robinson added 10 points and eight assists, while Tevin Glass had 12 points and nine rebounds off the bench.
Meadowcreek took a 14-5 lead, but Parkview closed the first quarter on a 11-5 run to make it 19-16 and scored the first 11 points of the second quarter to go up 27-19 before the Mustangs responded.
Meadowcreek closed the first half on a 13-2 run and led 32-29 at intermission. Glass had 15 points in the first half, 11 of them coming in the first quarter.
Delano Spencer, a freshman, had 15 points to lead Parkview and Christian Patterson scored 10.
No. 9 seed Parkview (9-18) had to defeat Brookwood 78-53 on Monday in a play-in game to advance to the quarterfinal meeting with Meadowcreek.
