Prep roundup: Mustang boys earn top seed in Region 8-AAAAA

NORCROSS -- Lavon Hooks had a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds Monday as Meadowcreek beat Parkview 75-53 in its regular season finale.

Terrance Glass also scored 16 points as Meadowcreek's boys basketball team improved to 21-4 overall and 15-1 in the region.

Meadowcreek ended the season tied for first in the region with Central Gwinnett. The coin toss to determine the region's top seed was correctly called heads by Meadowcreek head coach Billy Davis, giving the Mustangs the No. 1 seed for the region tournament.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Central 93, Dacula 68

DACULA -- Jordan Adams scored 25 points while Brian Williams finished with 20 points Monday as Central Gwinnett cruised to a 93-68 win over Dacula in Region 8-AAAAA.

Kwabena Frimpong added 11 points for Central (23-2, 15-1) while Jerry Coleman finished with 10 points. By virtue of a tie-breaking coin toss that was won by Meadowcreek, Central will be the No. 2 seed in the region tournament.

Dacula was led by Dexter Walker with 25 points and Terrence Hutchins with 19 points.

Norcross 83, South Forsyth 34

CUMMING -- Norcross blew past South Forsyth 83-34 on Monday, securing its No. 1 seeding in this week's Region 7-AAAAA tournament.

Jeremy Lamb had 34 points to lead Norcross (23-2, 17-1) while Marty Johnson and Jason Croom each finished with 10 points.

Mill Creek 56, Northview 54

HOSCHTON -- Mill Creek squeaked past Northview 56-54 Monday night in the Hawks' (17-7) regular season finale.

Mountain View 74, Oconee Co. 60

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Mountain View ended its regular season with a 74-60 win over Oconee County on Monday.

Top scorers for Mountain View (11-12, 3-5) were Drew Bollier with 18 points, Chaz Grant with 15, Craig Bartlett with 13 and Justin Joseph with 12.

GAC 65, Westminster 47

NORCROSS -- Malcolm Brogdon poured in 29 points Monday as Greater Atlanta Christian concluded its regular season 65-47 over Westminster.

Beaux Hebert added 12 points as GAC improved to 24-1 overall and 14-0 in Region 6-AA, giving the Spartans the top seed in this week's region tournament.

Hebron 68, Prince Ave. 51

BOGART -- Four Hebron players scored in double figures, led by 22 points and six assists from Trey Saxton, as the Lions upended Prince Avenue 68-51 on Monday in Region 8-A.

Anthony Stewart added 15 points and 11 boards for Hebron (11-12, 8-7) while Kyle Johnson finished with 15 points. Nick Bates chipped in with 13 points and five rebounds.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Parkview 72, Meadowcreek 22

NORCROSS -- Parkview concluded its regular season undefeated on Monday by cruising past Meadowcreek 72-22. The win gives the Panthers (25-0, 16-0) the top seed in the Region 8-AAAAA tournament.

Katie Carroll led Parkview with 20 points while Mia Marshall added 11 points.

Grayson 63, South 44

LOGANVILLE -- Taren White scored 30 points Monday night to lead Grayson 63-44 over South Gwinnett. Anela Durmic added 14 points for Grayson.

South, which was led by 15 points each from Kiara Baker and Tina Odume, ended its regular season at 6-19 overall and 5-11 in Region 8-AAAAA. The Comets will be the seventh seed in this week's region tournament.

Central 66, Dacula 53

DACULA -- Nia Hardy had 19 points while Irrion Conaler followed with 15 more Monday in helping Central Gwinnett to a 66-53 win over Dacula in Region 8-AAAAA.

Caryn Ivey chipped in 12 for Central (11-14, 8-8). Breanna Overby led Dacula (7-18, 5-11) with 17 points while April Green scored 10. Shantaja Latimore also played well for Central with eight points, eight boards and four blocks.

Brookwood 62, Berkmar 42

SNELLVILLE -- Katie Mallow led all players with 21 points Monday and topped the 1,000-point mark for her career as Brookwood beat Berkmar 62-42. Brookwood (19-6, 13-3) will be the No. 2 seed in the Region 8-AAAAA tournament.

Autumn Adams added 12 points for Brookwood while Jazmine Jackson chipped in with 11 points. Berkmar (9-16, 5-11) was led by 12 points from Kenisha Watkins.

Norcross 63, South Forsyth 36

CUMMING -- Norcross locked up the No. 1 seed for the Region 7-AAAAA tournament and a spot in the Class AAAAA state playoffs Monday by beating South Forsyth 63-36.

Briana Jordan and Diamond DeShields each scored 14 points to lead Norcross (21-3, 17-1).

Mill Creek 57, Northview 35

HOSCHTON -- Moneshia Simmons finished with 16 rebounds and 14 points Monday to help Mill Creek pull away for a 57-35 win over Northview, giving the Hawks the No. 2 seed for the Region 7-AAAAA tournament.

Mill Creek (21-4, 16-2), which led 19-18 at the half, also received 11 points from Jac' Weathers and 10 rebounds and eight points from Bethel Ogbuehi.

North 55, Collins Hill 40

SUWANEE -- Stephanie Wheeler hit 12 of 14 free throws and finished with 16 points Monday to guide North Gwinnett 55-40 over Collins Hill in Region 7-AAAAA.

Annie Wheeler followed with 14 points for North (17-7, 11-7) while Shay Fleetwood chipped in with 11 points.

Shawnie Smith scored 10 points to lead Collins Hill (8-16, 5-13) while Emily Buck finished with nine points.

Oconee Co. 58, Mountain View 46

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Mountain View ended its regular season Monday with a 58-46 loss to Oconee County. The Bears (8-16, 3-5) will open the Region 8-AAA tournament Wednesday at Jackson County at 6 p.m.

Bailey Holmes led Mountain View with 17 points while Emery Buckner followed with 16 points.

Lovett 46, Buford 38

ATLANTA -- Lovett topped Buford 46-38 Monday night in Buford's Region 6-AA regular season finale. The loss dropped Buford (22-3, 12-2) to the No. 2 seed in the upcoming region tournament where it will play Avondale on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Greater Atlanta Christian.

Tatiana Jackson led Lovett with 23 points while Buford was led by 11 points from Andraya Carter.

GAC 63, Westminster 24

NORCROSS -- Greater Atlanta Christian captured the No. 1 seed for this week's Region 6-AA tournament by beating Westminster 63-24 on Monday.

Chaney Means scored 16 points to lead GAC (20-4, 13-1) while Christina Nelson added 14 points. Peyton Whitted also helped with 11 points while Clarke Boards chipped in with nine points and nine assists.

Prince Avenue 48, Hebron 39

BOGART -- Prince Avenue knocked off Hebron 48-39 Monday in Region 8-A action.

Jalisa Tucker scored 11 points to lead Hebron (15-8, 10-5).

GIRLS TENNIS

John's Creek 3, Wesleyan 2

NORCROSS -- Megan Kelly won at No. 2 singles while Caroline Nelson won at No. 3 singles for Wesleyan on Monday, but John's Creek took the other three matches to top the Wolves 3-2.

BOYS TENNIS

John's Creek 4, Wesleyan 1

NORCROSS -- John's Creek knocked off Wesleyan 4-1 in a non-region match on Monday. Norman Chang was the lone winner for Wesleyan at No. 1 singles.
