Gladiators' winning streak snapped

ESTERO, Fla. — Gwinnett saw its four-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night at the Germain Arena. The Everblades broke a 1-1 deadlock with just over three minutes to play in the third to take a 3-1 win over the Gladiators.

The Gladiators (23-20-3-2) failed on one power play chance, and at the end of the first period Florida owned the lead in shots 11-8 over Gwinnett.

A low scoring second period saw Shea Guthrie knock home the only goal and put the Everblades (25-18-3-4) up 1-0. Brandon Buck received a pass into the top of the slot and fired the puck quickly on David Brown. Brown, who made 36 saves in the game, made a nice save on the wide open attempt, but Guthrie was in place by the left post to stuff home the rebound and give the Everblades the lead.

Scott Mifsud got the Gladiators on the board to tie the game up at one. Mifsud picked up a loose puck in the neutral and worked into the attacking zone along the left wing. Mifsud fired a shot from the slot and snuck it under the pads of Chris Beckford-Tseu. The goal came at the 5:04 mark of the third period.

It would take 11 minutes for either side to break the tie, but Mathieu Roy provided the marker for the Everblades. Roy took a pass from Scott Hotham right on top of the goal crease and tipped it past an outstretched Brown to give the Everblades a 2-1 lead.

Ryan Lang added an empty-netter in the final minute to seal the victory.
